In a world where man-made materials are dominant, leather remains a natural material that is ideal for sofas. Leather is a versatile, durable material that is resistant to cracking, peeling and any tearing, on top of this it also breathes all year round and never has a sticky texture like similar leather look products.
Purchasing a quality traditional leather sofa is seen as an investment, because care for it properly it can last a very long time, looking even better with age. Even with the emergence of newer styles, traditional leather sofas have maintained their popularity and place within homeowners living areas.
Leather sofas are a considerable investment that can completely transform a living room. It’s important to choose a sofa that not only matches the interior of your home but will stand the test of time. Opting for a cheaper fabric sofa may seem like a good idea, but a high-quality leather sofa will last a lot longer and prove itself to be the more cost-effective option in the long run.

Leather sofas are known for their durability which is why they are a great investment. However, like any prized item in your household, your leather sofa requires regular care to remain in top shape.
You should care for your leather furniture from day one, using solutions that are designed to protect and enhance the look of the material. This way your leather sofa will last even longer, and look good as new!
The first thing to do before cleaning your leather sofa is to read the cleaning instructions in the label – this is a crucial step because certain cleaning methods might cause damage to the material. If no information is provided, contact the manufacturer to find out the recommended cleaning method for your leather sofa.
The best course of action in the event of your leather sofa getting stained with anything from ink to food grease is wiping the stain away with a damp cloth and a mild soap, such as saddle soap.
There are also a variety of cleaning products available that have been specifically designed to prevent and eliminate even the worst of smells. Before using any cleaning products it’s important that you do a spot test on a small patch of the leather to make sure that it doesn’t react to the chemicals within the product.
For our leather Chesterfield sofas, we recommend a daily dust down with a lint-free cloth, a weekly warm water wash and soft cloth polish of the leather finish, as well as a monthly treatment with a leather clean and feed product which prevents your sofa’s surface from cracking and dying.
Every four months deep clean your leather sofa with soapy water and give your sofa a gentle clean. If you want a light protective finish, apply a coat of olive oil to the leather using a microfiber cloth. When you have done this, leave it for 50 minutes then wipe it off with a rag.
No. We even recommend using it to keep your leather sofa moisturised. Mixing 1 small cup of white vinegar with 2 small cups of linseed oil makes for an easy DIY polishing solution for your sofa which you can apply to the surface of the leather. Once completely absorbed, just use a soft cloth to buff the leather and you’ll have a shiny and clean Chesterfield sofa.
Pet owner leather furniture is in about as much risk as the rest of the furniture pieces in the house. And while there is always the possibility that your cat scratches your leather sofa, or your dog takes a shine to chewing on the cushions, there’s a number of ways to pet proof your leather.
